The outer size of your mat board are the dimensions measuring the outside of the mat board. If you type 8x10 the opening will be exactly 8x10. If you planning to purchase and frame and a mat use this guide to select the mat then choose a complementary frame that suits the mat size. Do note however this table does not take into consideration the width of the frame.
